Brazilian Fazenda Da Lagoa – RFA
One of the best Brazilian coffee beans we’ve ever tasted
The Fazenda da Lagoa estate offers delicious coffees in typical Brazilian style. Their characteristics include a sweet aroma and a complex, interesting body. Naturally there are notes of soft nuttiness and chocolate. Maybe you always expect this from the best Brazilian coffee beans? Well you won’t be disappointed. Furthermore there is also a pleasant, well-rounded acidity to this great value Brazil coffee. Note, in coffee descriptions “acidity” means the dry, bright, sometimes even sparkling sensation that a really high-quality coffee has. By way of contrast it never means anything that will hurt your tummy!
As a result of all the above, we get to offer you a delicious, medium-bodied South American humdinger. This is a wonderful example of single estate Brazilian coffee. It makes for a reliably great drink at any time.
Brief History of Fazenda da Lagoa
Fazenda da Lagoa (Farm of the Lagoon) is an estate in the Minas Gerais state of southeastern Brazil. Of course the country has a great coffee tradition. But even here the long history of Fazenda da Lagoa stands out. Originally, Portuguese settlers arrived in the second half of the 18th century. Liking what they found, they built a little chapel on the banks of the Amparo River. They erected the fences around the area that is still today’s estate. Clearly those pioneers knew what they were doing.
Chief among them, Manouel Ferreira Carneiro was the man who built the first house on this farm. The business has continually prospered to become one of the largest coffee estates in Minas Gerais. Naturally this knowledge of how to produce the best Brazilian coffee beans has passed down the generations. Today, Carneiro’s direct descendant, Joaquím Paiva, is one of the two managing directors of the farm.
Fazenda da Lagoa sits 1100 masl,. It is about 170km southeast of Belo Horizonte, the state capital. Its 2,850 hectares include a nature reserve, woodlands and pastures. In total there are 1,500 hectares of coffee bushes. Streams from 40 natural springs provide water to the land. They all gradually converge into two small rivers that mark the borders of the grounds.
This Brazilian Facenda da Lagoa coffee is certified by the Rainforest Alliance. We are delighted to work with them. The RFA certifies coffee, and other products, to ensure a high standard of production. In general, RFA standards protect the environment and the rights of workers. This is particularly important for farms and other operations in some of the poorest countries in the world.
Sustainability for Brazilian Coffee
Finally, there is one more reason for Fazenda de Lagoa’s success. Only the best Arabica coffee varieties, such as Catuaí and Acayá, grow on the plantation. This is a working estate. However it is also a haven for diverse flora and many animals. Most importantly, sustainable principles guide all cultivation and processing practices on the farm. The idea being to always conserve this natural environment. Similarly, Fazenda da Lagoa aims to be an inspiring partner to neighbouring rural communities. It does this by protecting healthy soils, promoting clean rivers and producing sustainable coffee,
Above all else the estate always follows these strict sustainable principles. Hence Fazenda da Lagoa honours its 200-year-old coffee tradition and looks confidently to the future.
